Baby Update

January 22, 2010

We went to the doctor today. Everything is looking good and the baby’s head is in the right position. However, there was no dialation. Just lots of softening. That is all to report.

Just so you don’t waste all your time, here is a fun video to enjoy.

Kalyn Just Keeps Getting Cuter…

September 19, 2009

Here are a bunch of pictures of Kalyn doing cute things.  First, she has made the white laundry basket into a new toy.  She climbs in and out of it all by herself.

Kalyn also lately has started putting random things on her head and calling it a hat.  This includes things from her toothbrush, to a book, to little toys… and boxes!  We had fun watching her wear her “hat” and hope you do too.

Kalyn’s hair is also getting longer.  It’s finally long enough to put up in pig tails, but she usually pulls them out after 10 minutes or so.  The pigtails in the picture managed to stay in for a whopping half hour.  It doesn’t help that her hair is so straight and soft that they practically slip out by themselves.

Kalyn’s energy level has seemed to skyrocket in the past few weeks, which has really fun but also has been a little bit difficult to adjust to.  Her vocabulary also continues to grow at very fast pace – it is a rare that a day goes by that she doesn’t learn at least one new word.  One of my favorite units in my English language and grammar class was on the various theories of how children learn to talk, and now it is very exciting and fun to see Kalyn doing just that. These days she chatters pretty much constantly about everything, using both words we can understand and words we can’t.

Big Bed

September 19, 2009

Right after we moved in a neighbor offered us a couch and a twin bed that she no longer needed. Since then, Kalyn has been sleeping in the twin bed.  She does really well, especially at night.  At nap time she will get out of the bed and play for a while before she finally falls asleep, but since this just means her official nap time extends by however much time she quietly plays in her room, I really don’t mind.

An Official Announcement

August 2, 2009

We would like to announce that we are expecting number two! New baby is due, totally by accident, on February 13.  We probably will not be finding out the gender ahead of time, so it will be a surprise for everyone when new baby is born.

So far new baby appears to be healthy and growing.  I’ve had a lot of “morning” sickness (all-day sickness is more like it), which I didn’t have with Kalyn, but I haven’t been near as tired as I was with her.  I’m still tired, but not sleep all day tired like I was before. We are all excited for new baby’s arrival!

Learning to Talk

August 2, 2009

In the past few weeks Kalyn’s speech skills have really started to take off. Watching her learn to talk is so fascinating and fun, I wanted to share with you some of the words she has learned to say.

Dog, Bunny, Baby, Feet, Shoes (shoe-shoes),  More, Bye-bye, Nigh-night, Pig, Horsey, Elephant (efan or ewefan), Birdie, Fishy (ishy), Neigh, Moo, Sss (hiss, like a snake), Maa, Meow, Juice, Hi, Water (wa-wa), Thank You (dake you), Bath (baff), Flower (fow or fower), No, Tickle, Nose, Up, and probably some more I can’t remember.

I love seeing Kalyn learn to talk. She’s a great babbler and “talks” all the time, it’s only a matter of time until she’s chattering away!

Quilt of Many Colors

July 22, 2009

I finally finished a quilt I have been planning to make for Kalyn for many months. It’s a crib sized quilt with patches sewn on top. Each of the patches are a different fabric, and the fabrics are a wide variety of colors and textures.  Originally I was just going to sew the pieces directly together, but when I went to the quilt show in Idaho Falls a couple months ago I was inspired to try this design instead.  I’m really very pleased at how well it turned out.

July 21, 2009

This past week I made Kalyn a little apron for her to wear. She likes to try to put on my aprons, but they are way too big for her and I was worried she they would catch on something and she would hurt herself.  The apron only took about 3 1/2 hours to make and turned out pretty cute.  The pictures of her wearing the apron turned out even cuter.

Hogle Zoo

July 21, 2009

A few weekends ago we went to Hogle Zoo with Kalyn. It was pretty rainy, so we didn’t get a lot of animal pictures. Kalyn really enjoyed the rain, though, and I personally preferred rain to blazing heat. Kalyn loves animals and also got to explore puddles for the first time.

Stake Picnic

July 21, 2009

A while ago we made it to our stake picnic, where Kalyn got her first taste of cotton candy. She also got to ride on the “big girl” swing for the first time. It was a great picnic and we were glad to go!

Kalyn Makes Some Friends

May 3, 2009

Yesterday we went to the waterfall/pond area by Heritage Halls on BYU campus.  While we were there Kalyn made some friends.  Then, we made a video.

And, here’s some pictures:
