Kalyn Goes to the Doctor and Some Fun Videos

February 26, 2008

Today Kalyn had her first trip to the doctor.  Everything went well and she is already just about back to her birthweight.  Normally doctors give them two weeks to get back up there.  She is one healthy baby.

Talking about babies, I also enjoyed watching this video clip about Anne Geddes.  It warmed my baby-filled heart.  I wasn’t aware she was such an activist for preventing child abuse.

And, last but not least this may be the cutest video I have seen in a long time, and I’ve seen a few.  Then again, I am a nerd married to a nerd so you may not agree.

Guess which part of the country got street view on Feb 12?

So I just happened to click on Provo today and discovered that most of the Wasatch front is now covered in google map street view.  Pretty cool!  I am not going to post the picture to our house as we don’t want scary people to know where we live and all.

You can spend a minute or two to scroll to our house and see our little blue car in the driveway.  I looks like the pictures were take sometime last fall.  Mom is probably freaking out right now. . .  I’ll post a video to help her freak out even more!

Feel free to come visit!

We are both feeling well enough for visitors now.  Please call and let us know that you’d like to come see the baby and we will tell you a good time.  Katie and baby are both doing well.

Sunday Afternoon. . .

February 24, 2008

Here is another group of pictures.  We stayed home from church and spent time with the baby.  Tim was sick the past few days, but he is mostly better now.  I still have a cough, but it is almost gone.

Yesterday, I heard a loud shriek.  That is the shriek I normally associate with the times when Katie pulls a shirt out of the closet and a spider falls on her arm.  I went down the hall and found and innocent looking baby on the changing table, and Katie sprayed all along her front (up to her chin!) with baby poop.  I knew little boys would spray, but I didn’t know about the projectile pooping. . .

Yesterday, I purchased seven little cheap flower pots.  We worked on getting the nice basket of live plants Katie’s mom got her into individual pots.  There is a picture with all the nice plants.  Hopefully, we will be able to keep them alive.

We also gave Kalyn a bath today.  She didn’t scream at all.  In fact, we are thinking that she will be a rather quiet baby.  She doesn’t really cry much at all.  In fact, the only time she seems fussy at all is when she wants to be fed.

Zoom! ZOOM!! ZOOOOOM!!!

February 18, 2008

So we checked in at 4:30 AM. Katie was 4cm. Around 830 she started feeling pain. At 9 she was at 6cm. She asked for the epidural at 920. There was an emergency and so all the doctors and nurses were busy and they couldn’t get in until around 10:15. They put the epidural in but it wasn’t working very well.

They discovered why when they checked her. She only had an anterior lip left. The aesthesiologist said, “Oh! That’s why it isn’t working. . . I gave her a 6cm dose.” He put in a slightly different medicine and she started feeling better.

Just so you don’t think I am sitting on the computer while katie is doing all the work or anything, she is listening to her relaxation music on the computer and resting.  I thought I would give an update.

It is now 11:20 and we are waiting for the doctor to come in so we can start pushing. It has been very quick which is nice. Nurse is back and says we are going to start pushing . . . got to go!

Stay tuned!!!

Baby Update #4

February 17, 2008

If you are wondering whether or not the baby has come yet, then the answer is probably not yet or else we would have called you.

Yesterday morning I saw the doctor.  I was 3 1/2 cm dilated and 100% effaced and was told the baby was down low.  He said “I’m certain you’re going to have the baby today or tomorrow.”

Yeah…  He has 6 hours left before he is dead wrong.

For more than 24 hours I have been having contractions every 10 minutes.  Sometimes they get a little bit farther apart, sometimes they get a little closer.  But, mostly, they just stay at 10 minutes.  I have talked to the nurses and they just repeat the same thing over and over again, “Come in when your contractions are 2-3 minutes apart or when the pain is too much to handle.”

So, at this point I’m just trying to live with things as they are.  It’s kind of hard to deal with, especially since I didn’t get very much sleep last night, but I seem to be surviving for now.

I’ll keep you posted.  Thank you, everyone, so much, for not calling every few hours or every day to see if the baby has come yet.  I’ve heard of such things happening and I’m pretty grateful to everyone for being patient, since the baby not being here yet is just about the LAST thing I want to talk about.

Baby Names

February 14, 2008

On a lighter note, I thought I’d go ahead and share this link I came across this evening while wasting time reading blogs and such.  This is the largest gathering of “bad” baby names I have ever seen.  While there certainly is no accounting for taste, some of these names really make you wonder what the parents were thinking.

And while you look at that you can wonder what we are thinking for our baby girl.  Will you be writing in to add her name to the list?  Who knows…

Also, today was again pretty much the same as the last two days.  No new news on the baby’s arrival.

P.S.  Lest you think the author is being somewhat hypocritical with a child named “Punky” you should know it is a common custom among professional bloggers to use fake names when referring to their children in the interest of safety/privacy. In a comment lower down, though, she does admit that Punky’s real name and nickname both showed up in the comments.
