A Trip to Sanpete County – The Conclusion

May 28, 2008

When I went to post our story about our recent trip I discovered that the image import wasn’t working.  Eventually, Tim was able to fix it and he posted the part of the trip I had already written.  So, now I am going to complete that story in a separate post so that it will show up in people’s RSS feeds.

So, last time we ended with these adorable pictures taken Friday night when we went to the Scandinavian Dinner:

The dinner was delicious!  That night we stayed at one of the student apartments in Ephraim.  It was kind of fun to have a whole three bedroom apartment to ourselves.

The next day we went to the Scandinavian Days parade.  We only stayed for about 15 minutes since none of us was interested in seeing the whole thing.  It was baby’s first parade!

That afternoon we then headed over to Spring City for their annual home tour.  Spring City used to be a ghost town, after Highway 89 was redone away from the town.  As a result, most of the homes from the early 1900s are still there.  More recently Spring City has become a popular hub for Utah artists.  These artists have restored many of the homes to their original state and turned the town into one big art gallery.

The homes were definitely the highlight of the trip.  There were a ton of people and many of the homes were gorgeous.  The LDS chapel in the town is also beautiful and is in great condition.  The following is some of the favorite homes we visited.

After spending a whole day looking at old restored homes, I was completely expecting the bed and breakfast we were going to in Spring City to also be and older, restored home.  I was very surprised to find that the house is practically new.

Scott Farm Bed and Breakfast was a great place to stay.  The innkeeper was really kind and there were lots of little stuff that made us feel at home, like little chocolates by the bed and a gift of a loaf of bread as we left.  The breakfast was big and delicious, including fruit, a scone, an omeletee, sausages, and more.  I was a little worried that Kalyn would be noisy and bother the other guests, but she slept through the night just like she always does.  I don’t want to sound like a commercial, but it really was a delightful place to stay for not very much money.

Overall we really enjoyed the trip.  It was fun to get away from the usual without having to go very far.  I would go again sometime, for sure.

A Trip to Sanpete County

May 26, 2008

We spent Friday-Sunday in Sanpete county.  It was great to get away from things and enjoy all the festivities going on down there.

Friday night we went to Scandinavian Dinner at Snow College where we were able to snap these pictures before the camera died.

Kalyn is Three Months Old

May 18, 2008

Kalyn is three months old today.  It is so exciting to see her grow and develop. It is kind of fun to do this post each month to show what’s been happening over the past month.

Kalyn loves to suck on her hand.  We have tried to get her to suck on a pacifier instead but she is just not interested.  She gets a look on her face similar to what you would expect from a lemon.  The funniest thing is how loud she is able to slurp while sucking on her hand.

Kalyn is a fabulous night sleeper and pretty much always sleeps through the night.  She continues to hate her naps, though.  She works very hard to stay awake and will do things like shaking her head, rubbing her face with her hands, and keeping her eyes open as wide as they can go to stay awake during the day.  Sometimes I wish I could explain to her that if she just went ahead and took a nap that she would feel so much better when she wakes up, but for now I just try to help her nap when she needs it.

Kalyn is getting very active. She is great at holding up her head and is starting to enjoy tummy time.  She rolled over several times the other day (from her tummy to her back) but she hasn’t done it again since that day.  She loves to smile and kick her legs when we talk to her.

Kalyn is also starting to play with toys, where “play” means “grab and try to put in mouth.”  It is fun to see her interacting with things and working on her hand-eye coordination.  There is a lamaze brand butterfly toy that has little knots that are easy for her to grab that we like to carry around.

We love Kalyn, she is wonderful and it is so much fun to see her grow and learn.

Do you want to go to the Scandinavian Heritage Festival?

May 14, 2008

Would you like to come to the Scandivian Heritage Festival and share an apartment with us on May 23?  All the hotels are full, but the student housing rents out whole 3 bedroom apartments for $75 or $110 a night.  If you’d like to come, we’d enjoy the company and we would split the cost. Email us if you’re interested.

I’m really excited to go, it sounds like a lot of fun.  I’m most excited about the Scandinavian Gourmet Dinner Friday night and the Spring City house tour on Saturday.

The festival ends Saturday afternoon and then Saturday evening we will be staying at a bed and breakfast to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes.

Kalyn Rolls Over

May 14, 2008

Yesterday Kalyn rolled from her tummy to her back for the first time.  We will have a video of this new trick soon.  Plus more pictures, for everybody who’s been bugging us.

Backup Your Hard Drive

May 14, 2008

A little over a week ago the hard drive on my MacBook died.  Now it is back (yea!).  It wasn’t that bad though because the hard drive was still under warranty so it was completely free to replace.  Also, I have been using Time Machine to keep a backup of the computer so everything on my computer was backed up only minutes before the hard drive failed.

So, this is a little reminder to all of you computer owners out there: back up your hard drive.

Two Month Checkup

May 4, 2008

Kalyn went in for her two month checkup yesterday.  She weighed 11 lbs. 1 oz.  (edit: that was 11 lbs. 10 oz., I remembered wrong).  She was 22 1/2 inches long.  At her 2 week checkup she was right on average for all her measurements, but for this trip she was in the 70th percentile for most of her measurements.

She also got her first vaccinations.  For the first two shots she didn’t even cry, and the second two shots she cried a bit but quickly calmed down.  She didn’t get really upset until several hours later when she started SCREAMING for probably about 30 minutes straight.  It was not fun for her, mom, or dad.  Eventually, though, she calmed down and after she got some baby tylenol she was much better.  This morning she was completely recovered, as evidenced by the super smiley pictures in the last post.

For evidence of how much she has grown check out this comparison.

Baby’s First Camping Trip

May 4, 2008

We took Kalyn on her first camping trip Tuesday night.  We just went to Nunns park in Provo Canyon so we would be close to home in case things didn’t work out.  It was quite warm and Kalyn was bundled up anyway.  She was fascinated by the trees and the fire.  She slept very well.

Two Months Old

May 4, 2008

Kalyn turned two months old this week. She is growing fast and learning a lot.

Right now Kalyn is working hard at learning how to move her arms and legs.  She is reaching for things, but not quite getting there yet.  She loves to sit and kick her legs and move her arms when she is happy.

The thing Kalyn hates the most right now is sleeping.  She sleeps great at night, but as long as there is anything to look at she will fight as hard as she can to keep her eyes open.  It is often difficult to get her to take naps during the day, although we are doing better than we were.  It is great to see that she has so much joy at just looking at things that she doesn’t want to stop.

She also has been working hard at developing the strength to hold up her head.  Often when I will hold her on my shoulder she will refuse to lean against me, as she wants to keep her head up and looking around.  She’s not too excited about tummy time, but if we sit with her she will tolerate it for a little while.

One of Kalyn’s favorite things to watch is the fish.  This isn’t really new, but it continues to be a favorite activity.  Yesterday we went to the pet store to get some plecostomus and she seemed to be fascinated by so many fish.

Kalyn is so much fun, we are very happy she is with us.
