Kalyn is Blessed

Last weekend Kalyn was blessed by her father during our Sacrament Meeting.  It was a beautiful experience for me to see our first daughter blessed and officially given her name.  I was leading the music and so was able to look out and see everyone who had come to see her blessed.  I am grateful that there are so many people who love and care for our baby.  It is a great way to start a life.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to the blessing and to the lunch/dinner afterwards.  I was a little overwhelmed by having so many people in our house, but everyone was so friendly and helpful it went even better than I hoped.   A special thank you to all the grandmas who did all the cleaning up for me as well.

The blessing dress Kalyn wore was extra special, as it was the same blessing dress I wore and my mother wore for our blessings.   I actually didn’t even know my mom still had my blessing dress, or that my mother wore it, until I was talking to my mom about the blessing dress I was hoping to make (but would never have finished – babies don’t leave you a lot of free time).  I’m glad she remembered because it did bring a special element to the blessing, reminding me of the eternal cyclical nature of families.

The following pictures are of the blessing.  For the sake of keeping things straight, all family references are from Kalyn’s point of view unless specified otherwise.  Although it goes against my training to refer to elder family members by their first names, I used them since we had a couple of requests to leave last names out.   Tim’s side of the family uses first names, though, so it’s probably not weird for them.  🙂  Most of these pictures were taken by Grandma Kaye.
