St Louis / Nauvoo Trip

Over Labor Day we took a trip to St. Louis & then Nauvoo. It was a big success and we had a lot of fun.

In St Louis we first stopped by the St Louis temple and took a few pictures.

Next, we went to City Museum, which may be the most awesome place ever. It is an imaginative creation of tunnels, slides, and sculpture all made from reclaimed materials. We were lucky to go on a day that it wasn’t too busy. The kids and Mom and Dad all had a lot of fun. We highly recommend stopping here on any trip to St. Louis.

The next day we went to the zoo. Unfortunately, it was outrageously hot so after exploring all the air conditioned indoor displays we decided to call it a day and head over to the Arch. The Arch was also a great visit – it is probably the one thing the kids still talk about the most.

The next day we drove over to Nauvoo, where it was still outrageously hot. We still managed to have fun, though. When we went to the family activity center Kalyn’s one question about every area was “Do we actually get to make it?” and she was a little disappointed we didn’t get to do more.

The next day Tim and I traded off taking the kids places around Nauvoo while we each did a session. This actually worked much better than we expected, largely because there is a visitor’s area across the street where we could change and sit while the kids played with toys. There were a lot of kids there – probably because it was still so outrageously hot, too hot to do a ton of exploring. Tim did take the kids on a wagon ride, where he ran into an old friend.

The last day we stopped at the Callaway Kite Festival in Nebraska. We only stopped for a few hours, but it turned out to be perfect. The kids got to ride some horses, catch some candy in a candy drop, fly some kites, and play with the big caterpillar that comes every year to the festival.

Overall, we are really glad we went. It was a great family trip.
